Stainless steel junction boxes

A stainless steel junction box is a small sealed enclosure for splices, terminal blocks and a few devices where cables meet. Our junction box sizes are the 9 smallest wall-mount enclosures, 6 × 4 × 4 in to 12 × 10 × 8 in outside, each in 304 and 316L stainless: a hinged door on a continuous gasket with a keyed quarter-turn latch, a removable mounting panel and wall-mount feet, rated NEMA 4X / IP66 by the manufacturer and not UL listed. The table gives each size's panel, DIN capacity and depth.

DIN capacity: 17.5 mm modules (DIN 43880, 90 mm tall) on 35 mm rails with 10 mm wiring room above and below each row and wire duct where it fits, the same layout rule as the product pages; "tight" = edge to edge with no wiring room. Heat: sealed, wall-mounted, 10 K above ambient (IEC/TR 60890 surface, k = 3.7 W/m²K). Planning aids, not a guarantee.

Junction box or pull box?

Splices and terminals, or a pull point

Junction box

Holds splices, terminal blocks and a few devices where cable runs meet. Size it for what is inside: the terminals or DIN modules, the bend room for the conductors and about 20% spare. Sizing an enclosure.

Pull box

A pull point in a conduit run. For conductors of 4 AWG and larger, NEC 314.28 sets its minimum size from the raceway trade size: for a straight pull, at least eight times the largest raceway; for an angle or U pull, six times. Check the edition your inspector enforces; any size you need is a custom build.

Asked and answered

Stainless junction boxes: questions

What size stainless junction box do I need?

Count what goes inside: terminal blocks or DIN modules, the devices and their depth, and leave about 20% spare. The table gives each size's mounting panel, DIN capacity and depth to the door; each product page also lays your own modules out on its panel.

Do the junction boxes come with cable entries?

Add the entries you need in the cutout designer: it places cable glands, conduit hubs and connectors on any face, checks the spacing and sends the layout for a quote. Bottom entry is our recommendation outdoors and in washdown.

Will DIN rail terminals fit?

With wiring room and duct, the 8 × 6 × 4 in, 8 × 8 × 4 in, 10 × 8 × 4 in, 10 × 8 × 6 in, 12 × 10 × 6 in, 12 × 12 × 6 in, 12 × 10 × 8 in sizes take a full DIN row (up to 14 modules). The smaller panels take terminals, or modules edge to edge with no wiring room.

304 or 316L for a junction box?

304 for indoor washdown and inland outdoor sites; 316L for salt air, de-icing salt, brine, chlorinated cleaners and wastewater. Every size here comes in both. 304 vs 316L.

Is a junction box the same as a pull box?

No. A junction box holds splices and terminals; a pull box is a pull point in a conduit run, and for conductors of 4 AWG and larger NEC 314.28 sets its minimum dimensions from the raceway size.
